I sit here stunned. I am a life long Catholic, and a practicing one at that. I am also a life long Notre Dame fan, particularly football.
Right now, I can barely put my disappointment to words that ND has invited the most pro-choice, anti child, anti embryo president in modern history to give its commencement speech. And, right on the heals of Obama's outrageous remark about the developmentally disabled and the Special Olympics.
If it were some kind of debate, I would understand the invitation. As it stands, having a heartless president address a crowd of Catholics at a commencement is nothing short of completely disgraceful.
My dad, an ND '43 graduate who went straight to the Big One upon graduation, is lucky to be suffering from dementia today.

I signed a petition and sent an e-mail to ND's president. This is a horrible decision. I hope the university comes to its senses and withdraws the invitation.
Barring that, I hope the Bishop there steps in - if he has any say in the matter.

It just goes to show how narrow-minded and parochial the University's administration really is. People who would rather turn back the clock and save their "faith and their so called "Morality"
rather than attempt to combat diseases using stem cells from Embryos which would only be discarded anyway.
A bunch of hypocrites. You say you care about life? Throwing away the opportunity to save others by continuing necessary research to find cures for people just doesn't work for you does it?

Arnold,
Where are we turning back the clock? What is immoral about saving existing lives? You are the hypocrite, claiming to care about life while callously creating and destroying millions to do so.
If you'd studied the issue at all you would know that embryonic stem cell research has lead no where, while adult and cord blood research has had significant advances.
